Individual and Family therapy for Substance related issues.

Substance Abuse Evaluations/Assessments:

For School, Court, and or Treatment All Substance Abuse Evaluations are completed by a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) The evaluation consists of a face to face interview followed by completion of the SASSI (Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory). The SASSI has a 93% rate of accuracy in identifying individuals with substance dependence disorders.

Groups:

Choose Respect: Drug and Alcohol Series Cannabis Abuse

  • Choose Respect: D&A is a 12 week psycho educational group aimed at adolescents ages 13-17 with Marijuana use/ abuse/ dependence.
  • The program is an evidenced based, SAHMSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration) reviewed program called CYT (Cannabis Youth Treatment) Series.
  • The group will consist of a maximum of 6 adolescents (ages 13-17).Members will be determined eligible due to issues with Marijuana or other substances*
  • The group will be held from 5:00 to 6:15 on Monday/ Thursday evenings.
  • Each group member will be expected to attend all 10 sessions.
    • Make up days will not be available.
  • The ultimate goal is Abstinence. While focusing on the adolescent’s individual goals, this program uses a Motivational Enhancement Technique as well as a Cognitive/Behavioral approach to form these objectives:
    • To teach adolescents how to use a broad spectrum of coping activities to help deal with problems, interpersonal conflicts and negative mood states
    • To teach adolescents how to anticipate and challenge the thoughts, cravings, and urges that lead to marijuana use and to maintaining abstinence.

While focusing on strengths, individuals are taught to identify their motivation level and use cognitive behavioral techniques; first to abstain from marijuana and then to maintain abstinence after treatment is over.

Who is this group for:

  • Treatment was designed for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 with problems related to Marijuana use as indicated by one of the following:
    • Meeting criteria for cannabis abuse or dependence
    • Experiencing problems (including emotional, physical, legal, social, or academic problems) associated with Marijuana use
    • Using marijuana at least weekly for 3 months.

An additional 4 Individual sessions are available after the successful completion of group. A Parent/ Guardian’s participation is mandatory.

Parent Education Session:

Recommended for parents of Adolescents attending Choose Respect Series but available for any parent who has concerns about their child’s substance use/abuse.

  • Drugs and Adolescents
  • Relapse Signs and Recovery
  • Boundaries, Limits, Authority and Discipline
  • Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Fighting Fair
  • The Family Context.
